We all want the ideal spouse, kids, job, house, vacations, even the ideal day. That's fine, but not when our happiness, and by extension our faith and our relationship with God, is tied to the perfection of those ideals. Only God is perfect, therefore, only God should be our ideal. When we demand perfection from other things, we're replacing our perfect God with imperfect idols, and we set ourselves up for disappointment and failure. Remember: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." -- Isaiah 55:8-9
